Keeping current with the newest trends and best practices is important for anyone in the software testing sector. I'll go through some of the most important changes that have occurred in software testing here that you should be aware of.

  1. Shift-left testing: Shift left Testing is a software development practice that refers to moving (or shifting) some phase of software construction or test execution to an earlier phase in the lifecycle of a project; this is typically done to reduce the overall time required to complete the project as well as reducing overall costs by decreasing the amount of rework due to defects found late in the development process.

  2. Agile and DevOps: Agile and DevOps are two methodologies that work hand-in-hand to help organizations deliver better products sooner to their customers without sacrificing quality while reducing costs simultaneously, which is essential for effective software testing.

  3. Test automation: Test automation has become a crucial part of software testing. Automating repetitive tasks can save time and improve efficiency. Automated testing can be done using tools like Selenium, Appium, and TestComplete.

  4. AI & Machine Learning: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are transforming every industry, including Software Testing. It is predicted that by the year 2020, 50% of organizations will be using artificial intelligence in their software development (Source: Gartner). As more and more companies adopt Agile methodologies for their projects, the focus on automation also increases. In agile teams, around 70- 80 % of the tasks can be automated with the right tools.

  5. Performance testing: The performance test involves executing software under specific conditions to measure the response time or throughput of the system and compare the results with the expected results. In the traditional waterfall model, the performance tests were executed at the end of the development cycle, which delayed the release and caused a lot of issues for the end users and the customers. So to overcome these issues, DevOps came into existence where performance was a part of the continuous delivery process and not done at the end anymore but continuously throughout the development process itself. 

  6. Test management tools: Test management tools help teams keep track of their testing progress and results. These tools can help teams manage test cases, track defects, and generate reports.

  7. BDD Testing: BDD Testing (Behavior Driven Development) is a software development process where tests are written before the code. The tests describe the system's behaviour under test in plain English and are written using a specific language called Gherkin or SpecFlow which drives the automation of the testing tools.

In conclusion, testers need to keep up with the most recent developments in software testing. These trends can help your testing procedure become more effective, accurate, and high-quality.
